The workers bunkhouse is a very crucial part of the entire build as without it, your workers will not be able to rest after a heavy day at work. It is the first to be built in a project site.
It will need to be just very basic but must be a place of minimal comfort so the workers can relax after a day’s work. The workers will prefer an elevated wooden floor to be safe from ground critters as they sleep. You should also install electricity on the bunk house so they can charge their phones – their most common source of entertainment when they are not working. The electricity will also be very useful so they can cook their food if they run out of used wood as fuel. With the electricity, they will be able to install a ceiling fan or a stand fan to make their rests cooler.
It is always ideal to build the workers bunk house directly connected to your storage room where you can store your materials such as cement, rebars, and even tools that need to be protected from rain. With the storage room directly beside where the workers sleep, they will be able to monitor or guard the storage from theft. The storage room must be able to store at least 70 bags of cement. The storage room should also have elevated floor to prevent rain from possibly flooding the floors and hardening the cement. When storing cement it is best that you use it within the week, else it could harden with just the moisture present in the air as Philippine air is usually humid. Cement can harden during storage in just a week or two.
If you can afford to make a bigger bunk house, then you will be able to conduct the regular meetings with the workers, but if the site lot is limited then you will have to hold your meetings outside – under a shade.
The workers bunk house is usually torn down after the build since most lots are limited – just enough for the build project. But if the customer’s lot is wide and have more space beyond the build project, then the customer may opt to keep the bunk house and even the storage room to be used as his own storage shed. So it is important that the bunk house and the storage room be built presentable as some customers might want to keep and use it as storage.
